[S]ometimes the Internet knows just what you need. Feeds bombarded with selfies and red carpet looks can be trying in our January haze, and occasionally just what you need is a calming pink portrait of plants. Tapping in to the millennial pink craze may be part of Lotte van Baalen’s Instagram, but she explained that it’s more than a tool to her: “pink used to be really gendered, to the point where it became obsolete”. PlantsOnPink creator van Baalen seems to wish to to reclaim the colour as a place to find “that soft and nurturing feeling that everybody looks for in their hectic lives…and that really goes hand-in-hand with our love of plants”.
Whether her own findings of the dreamy combination of Plants On Pink, or the stumblings of another, her Instagram brings together the natural beauty in our world and teaches us to stop and appreciate the simple things. Starting out when Lotte van Baalen found the combination in the Netherlands back in 2015, she’s since gained 104K followers and a hashtag with more than 33K posts for her to sift through and regram if she fancies. Letting her followers take a breath in the hectic world of social media, not to mention what’s going on outside, it’s a very welcome moment of Zen.
