Rise Art launches online search for new generation art star

Are you the next YBA?

[A] brand new art prize launches today offering burgeoning artists around the world the chance to win £10,000 to kick start their careers. Launched by online platform Rise Art with a panel of judges headed up by YBA artist Gavin Turk, alongside Turner prize nominated Richard Wilson and Sarah Martin of the Turner Contemporary, the prize will see one artist win funding to create new work and also the chance to exhibit in an exhibition in central London, a move that could set the winner on the same path as their esteemed judges.

The prize is an inspired move by Rise Art, a platform known for curating and bolstering the next wave of art world talent, and comes at a time when public arts funding is at its lowest in decades. And as well as the overall prize other categories on the table include UK Artist of the Year and UK Young Artist of the Year, plus individual category winners for different mediums including Street Art, Painting, Drawing, Screen Printing, Photography and Sculpture. Open to new and mid-level career artists the prizes will be judged by a panel headed by Turk but also comprising 30 industry insiders from British artist Bruce McLean, Central Saint Martin’s Stephen Beddoe and Hunger’s editor Holly Fraser.

“I know how difficult it can be to make a career in the art world – it’s a highly competitive industry, with constant cuts to arts funding,” says Turk. “The Rise Art Prize is a much needed platform for raising the profile of artists and art within the media.”

“What we’re really looking for are artists with an ability to convey in whatever medium, their ideas to a maximum impact,” he continues. “This is a great opportunity for any emerging or mid-career artist and I’m pleased to support the project and be part of the jury panel.”
