Unisex scents seem to be big on the fragrance scene now. Why do you think this is the case?
Giving a gender to perfume is a very marketing approach that I personally dislike. I believe that nature is gender less. I don’t understand why the Lavender or Geranium flowers should be more masculine but the Rose or the Jasmine feminine. I believe in breaking the molds that lock creativity. If you tell me that you can’t do a Rose for men, then I will become obsessed in creating a Rose for men. If you don’t write “for men” or “for women” anymore on the packaging, you will realize that people choose ONLY according to the emotion they feel when they have the perfume on their skin.
My typical customer is someone who knows himself/herself very well. He/she wants to feel unique and comes to KILIAN to compose his/her wardrobe of scents to match the way they are dressed and express the different facets of our complex personalities.
What does luxury mean to you?
True luxury should never be thrown away – it should be passed on from one generation to another. All KILIAN bottles are refillable, all boxes/cases are reusable as jewelry boxes or evening clutches. True luxury should be the essential in the excessive!
