Songs NSFW: The female artists celebrating cunnilingus

My neck, my back...

[A]s fourth wave feminism infiltrates the music scene, female artists are taking a stance with social taboos – singing more and more songs about mental heath, menstruation, masturbation, sex and simply not giving a fuck.

Self-produced artists like FKA twigs, Grimes and ABRA are paving the way through a male dominated industry. Girl bands of the indie-rock and riot grrrl persuasion (Dream Wife, Skinny Girl Diet, Savages and Warpaint) are playing by their own rules and although this years festivals are undoubtedly lacking in female headliners, there are still plenty of reasons to celebrate the work of female artists.

With so many new empowering female voices writing songs about real life shit, we decided to collate a bunch of tracks that (unlike rapey mainstream pop songs) unashamedly embrace the art of female fellatio. We’ve got you the good, the bad and the dirty…

ABRA – FRUIT

ABRA is the self-proclaimed “Darkwave Duchess” who currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. With a feature on Archibold Slim’s “STYX” and two EP’s under her belt there is no wonder the DIY singer is currently on everyone’s “one to watch” list. “Fruit” is the bass-heavy, haunting track taken from her first album Rose.

“Come chase the night with me

They say I’m bad, you say it back

But you know you don’t believe that

Eat the fruit that feeds your spirit

On your knees, now baby eat it, eat it.”

SÄLEN – COPPER KISS

here 2 kill ur wasteman bf who didn't cop u a ticket for our electrowerkz show ?? ?: @danikm

A post shared by Sälen (@heysalen) on

Sälen is an electro-pop trio from East London made up of Ellie Kamio, Paul Taylor Wade and Is Tropical’s Simon Milder. Since their debut of “IILWMBF” back in 2015 the band have been working on their trademark sound and incongruously overt lyrics (as can be heard in their track “Copper Kiss”). For those unfamiliar with the term, a quick urban dictionary search will get you in the know.

“Give me your best Copper Kiss

Let’s bite until our lips are split

You kinda look like him

I’ll dress and act like her

Dreamt of fabricated love

Pour your metal in my mouth

Lick my lips and taste yourself

Let me roll your blood on my tongue, oh no

Oh no it stained my clothes.”

KAMAIYAH – NXGGAS

Featured alongside Drake in YG’s single “Why You Always Hatin” the female rapper from Oakland, California has released a handful of songs including “How Does It Feel” and the NSFW track “NXGGAS”. “NXGGAS” is probably the most overtly sexual track since Lil Kim’s “How Many Licks”.

“I got a nigga out in Oakland he be ridin’ for me

Gives me head till I’m red then I ride him sleep

Cruise the streets in his jeep to ride of my freak

We don’t tell nobody nothin’ we just lie and we creep

In the same damn rolls still nobody knows nothin’

We be knockin’ boots, lickin’ ass, and we tongue kiss

Hit the back room, come back my dress unzipped

He gon’ zip it back before they notice we be fuckin;

A freak like me and I’m a freak like him

He’s a freak in the sheets, flexible, I bend

When he gets me alone Lord knows I sin

One time then again and again and again, oh.”

FKA TWIGS – TWO WEEKS

A post shared by FKA twigs (@fkatwigs) on

FKA Twigs is certainly not one to shy away from producing provocative songs that hold strong feminist statements. Take her confrontational 2015 EP M3LL155X and its 16-minute long audio-visual for example… “Two Weeks” follows in same suit with its erogenous lyrics about female lust and Egyptian goddess-themed music video (the one where FKA Twigs pours milk into the mouth of her doppelgänger).

“Feel your body closing, I can rip it open

Suck me up, I’m healing for the shit you’re dealing

Smoke on your skin to get those pretty eyes rolling

My thighs are apart for when you’re ready to breathe in

Suck me up, I’m healing with all the shit you’re dealing

Motherfucker, get your mouth open, you know you’re mine.”

JAPANESE BREAKFAST – EVERYBODY WANTS TO LOVE YOU

New suit / fuck trump

A post shared by Japanese Breakfast (@jbrekkie) on

Hailed from Philadelphia, Japanese Breakfast is the pseudo name for Michelle Zauner’s (Little Big League) side project. Her dreamy lo-fi sound and unapologetically blunt lyrics make for some cheeky, kaleidoscopic summer listening.

“Can I get your number?

Can I get you into bed?

When we wake up in the morning

Will you give me lots of head?”

DESTINY FRASQUERI– ORANGE BLOSSOM

Crayola Crazy The Colorful Baby ❤️???????

A post shared by New York City Aficionado (@princessnokia) on

You might know Destiny Frasqueri better as Wavey Spice or Princess Nokia, the Afro-Nuyorican hip-hop artist from New York. Her three prosperous EP’s (Metallic Butterfly, Honeysuckle and 1992) assert the sweet sound of female empowerment. “Orange Blossom” taken from her socially conscious and soulful second album Honeysuckle explores love, lust and coming-of-age.

“Orange blossom

Favourite flavour

Hot and Tender and I’m fragrant

You can peel me little sour

I’ve been dripping for an hour

Little juicy how you do me

Made for eating self consuming

You’ve been begging for my presence

Orange blossom tastes like lemon

It’s not sugar, it’s all natural

Eat me barely like an apple

You can chew, you can swallow

What I do you gonna follow

Taste me, touch me, know you love me,”

and then there’s always this 2002 classic from Khia…
