[C]harlotte Rutherford’s photography is a sure-fire way to brighten up the grey winter days; opening @charlie__chops on Instagram floods the screen with hyperfun, colourful images which scream an influence from the likes of David LaChapelle and Nadia Lee Cohen, with an even greater sense of humour. Shooting icons from Amber Rose to Paris Hilton, and for OKgrl to Sophia Webster, there’s no denying the self-taught photographer exudes an unmistakable aesthetic, one which she hopes inspires that “you can do like ANYTHING”. Hey Charlotte, who’s your favourite photographer? What images have had a lasting impact on you?
David LaChapelle is forever my fave photographer!!!! He is the biggest genius and one of the only visual artists who makes me physically PUMPED & excited when I look at his work. I love how you can look at something he has made 500 times and still find something new about it every time. I also LOVE Hajime Sorayama, he is probably my fave 20th century artist, like he is a perfect combination of technical skill and sexy creativity!!!
As a visual artist is there anything that you’re particularly obsessed with?
I love people who aren’t very self aware and very sincere!!!!! I love oily skin and when you take a pic and the person is half blinking!
If you could do a shoot with anyone, from any specific era who would you choose and why?
EASYYYY Ultimate = Michael Jackson probably Dangerous era?? But Madonna also dreeeaammmmm <3 I’m so obsessed with celebrities I have the longest dream list but I think these are my top 2!
What’s been the most impactful lesson that you’ve learned in your career so far?
Have patience!!! Also listening and good communication is v important! Also very recently – put your name on your equipment if you lose stuff a lot and you usually actually get it back!

What advice would you give to other young photographers ?
I think I wish that people had told me that there is no right or wrong when you’re making something!
