Jennifer Coolidge may return to ‘The White Lotus’ in a prequel series

The actor, who played Tanya McQuoid, spoke on the possibility at the Sydney Film Festival.

The White Lotus creator Mike White has teased that Jennifer Coolidge could still play Tanya McQuoid in a future season of the show.

The duo were attending the Sydney Film Festival when White floated the idea of exploring some of Tanya’s past in a prequel series (which it would have to be, seeing as the character died at the end of season 2).

“I absolutely think that’s possible, we were just talking about that,” White told the audience, as reported by Deadline. “It’s a funny idea. And making Jennifer, you know, 20 years younger, that would be fun too. I think Jennifer’s like, ‘Sure, let’s do it!’”

With the show taking place in Hawaii then Sicily and soon-to-be Thailand, where could the Tanya-focused prequel go? “Australia gets my vote,” Coolidge said.

“My dream would be to hit every continent, so yeah, this is like its own continent, basically,” White added. “We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going. It would be so fun. Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

Coolidge previously hinted that she’d like Tanya to return in a season set after season 2, reincarnated as a seagull so she could poke out the eyes of her evil husband Greg, who tried to have her murdered.

Meanwhile, White recently stated that there is the possibility of an ‘all-stars’ season, bringing back multiple characters from different seasons for a brand-new mystery.

While little is known about the plot of the third season, it’s safe to say fans can expect more of the sharp writing, dark humour, and biting commentary on society’s wealthiest that made the first two seasons so popular.

“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White said. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
