Here’s what fashion girlies are going crazy for on Depop

Post-fashion month, HUNGER compiles a list of the best wardrobe staples on the re-sale market platform for you to recreate your favourite runway look at home.

Though fashion month may have come to a close, fashion enthusiasts are only just getting started. With a whole new mood board of fit-spo, HUNGER’s trendspotting from this year’s AW runways can be translated into an affordable and sustainable method of dressing, with the help of the re-selling platform Depop.

So for the fashion girlies keeping a watchful eye on their wallets and a slice of their buying habits reserved for the planet, here’s the ultimate runway trend list for you to get your hands on this month.

Paint the town red

This season’s most sizzling colour to come off the runway has to be red, and with the help of Rihanna’s Loewe cherry-hued puffer at the Superbowl halftime show, the colour is really having a moment. Depop reports that the search for this shade of red has seen an 82% increase. But with monochrome looks taking the recent fashion weeks by storm (looking at Hermès), it may also be time for you to invest in a full red fit: tights, dresses, skirts, sunnies, and your new trusty puffer coat!

Suited and booted

Good old-fashion tailoring will always be at the forefront of some of the most established designers in the industry, but now is the time to spice things up. From JW Anderson and Edward Crutchley playing with proportions and pops of colour, to Conner Ives’ relaxed seductive ensembles, the reimagined suit is our next pick for your second-hand adaptation. The trend is up 101% on Depop searches since the start of the year, brand @joycraig explains the reinvented menswear staple, saying “All my pieces are upcycled from menswear so naturally it gives off an oversized masculine feel, however with all the cutouts it then pushes a very feminine powerful image. Casual suiting is very in at the moment. The backless blazer suits can be styled effortlessly with sports trainers or you can wear the blazer as a dress and style with stockings and loafers.”

Meshed-up

A dainty sheer dress is the perfect wardrobe staple for any self-respecting fashion girlie and can prove a day-to-night piece that will take you from morning brunch get-togethers to the club past closing hours. Sheer panelling and lace trimmings are the perfect romantic vibe and can be paired with sharp accessories for a balanced look. With a 241% increase, the search for nightgowns and vintage slips is most definitely on. But don’t fret, as there is plenty to go around on Depop, with resellers taking inspo from designers like Molly Goddard and Nina Ricci for their inventive take on the material. Seller @shopvivien, who sources vintage in Bristol to sell on her Depop page, says “I love styling sheer/mesh pieces with low-waisted baggy jeans, or pairing a feminine sheer dress with a little masculine touch like an oversized blazer! My tip for finding good quality sheer/mesh is to look for ‘sheer overlay’ or ‘mesh overlay’ items as they tend to be better quality and last longer in your wardrobe.”

Sleazy dreams

We are all aware – or at least we should be – that sleaze is making its return, and after fashion month, it is more than evident that we are in a sleazy dream world of maxi skirts, chunky belts, and slouchy jumpers. If Diesel was anything to go by, it’s all about the elevation of the Y2K trend into a more elegant take on the pieces, which is down to your choice of styling. Searches for motocross jackets, for example, have seen a 70% increase, whilst ‘denim maxi skirt’ is on a 271% trajectory. Seller @skysimvintage says: “I like to style my denim skirt with black high boots as a statement, a 90s crop top, and a Black oversized leather jacket. Looks classy, trendy, and fashionable. For a more springtime look, I opt for white sandals and a silky shirt – dreamy!”
